We provided architectural services for the historic restoration of this century-old Carpenter Gothic church. The scope of work included expanding the existing sanctuary, creating a new vestibule, upgrading all mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems and ADA compliance. In order to maintain historical accuracy, our project team utilized highly-specialized craftsmen to duplicate or restore architectural features ranging from leaded glass windows to pews. Our firm worked closely with the local Historical Preservation Society to ensure that its historical integrity was maintained.

Commercial Gallery

We provided complete architectural services for the refurbishment of the landmark South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church located in San Marco Square in the heart of Jacksonville. Originally built in 1949, this three-story, 6,430 square foot facility had experienced tremendous growth over the years and by early 2000, required substantial renovation work in order to restore its original grandeur and accommodate the congregation. Special attention was given to the lighting systems and acoustics in an effort to enhance the use of the sanctuary.

We provided architectural services for the renovation of this old savings and loan bank building for use as a new two-story, 4,000 s.f. mixed use (office/retail) center located in the heart of San Marco Square. The building was completely stripped down to the structure inside and out. We designed a new clean, crisp exterior and a very contemporary interior for offices upstairs and a fine dining restaurant downstairs

The restoration of the building required that the original 1885 portion of the building be restored to its original state and that the restoration of the early 1900’s addition would be restored as far as it’s historically significant structure and exterior facades are concerned. The addition was mainly built of wood, unlike the original 1885 masonry veneer section, making it much easier to restore. Much of the wood siding on the building had been replaced with newer wood siding that had to be replaced because it is not in keeping with the materials that were originally used. Jaycox Architects & Associates won a Historic Preservation Award from the City of Jacksonville for this rehabilitation.

House of Care

This project is a new building designed as a residential facility for housing patients who are awaiting organ transplantation, recovering from transplant surgery and for Cancer patients undergoing outpatient cancer treatment. The duration of the guests’ stay varies from as little as a few days to as many as a few months. The design and the amenities of this building give the residents a traditional “home away from home” experience contrasting with the campus contemporary feel.

There are several amenity spaces for use by the residents including a large, two-story Great Room with T.V. and fireplace, Multi-Purpose room for group therapy, arts and crafts and meetings, Library, Reflection Room, Fitness Room, Dayrooms and Laundry Rooms. There is a large screened wraparound covered porch outside of the Dining Room for eating outdoors, relaxing in rocking chairs overlooking the lake or accessing the outdoors.

The exterior design of the building is residential in scale and materials while the interior is warm and comfortable. This project is a LEED certified facility.

Summit Sports Medicine

The Owner asked us to design a second Professional Office Building with 40,000 square feet for the expanding practices in the first building we designed in years prior. Summit Professional Plaza Phase II was designed to compliment the exterior features of the Phase I building. The building features a tilt-up concrete structure with steel framed floors and roof and metal roofing to conceal roof-top equipment. Most tenant improvement work was done commensurate with the building to include an Outpatient Imaging Center and Urgent Care center on the first floor and several physician suites on the upper floors.

Dialysis Center Jacksonville, Florida

The concept for this new Dialysis Center was to provide patients with their own space where they feel protected and have visual and acoustical privacy while maintaining a close relationship to the caregiver. The staff ratio is one Tech per 4 patients. There are 24 patient stations divided into 6 pods. Each pod has a tech workstation designed to have an unencumbered view of each patient. The pods are interconnected to allow Techs to cover for each other without losing sight of their own patients. Glass walls combined with semi-opaque shades and cubicle curtains offer acoustical as well as visual privacy when needed. Using VRV technology, we were able to give each pod its own temperature control and each patient station has its own lighting control.

The organization offered by this plan reduces staff fatigue and increases patient safety by consolidating the day’s supplies into the pod which reduces trips to the supply rooms. Arranging each Tech’s patients in a pinwheel arrangement around the Tech workstation greatly reduces the number of steps the Techs have to take over the day. There are abundant windows for natural light and views of the outdoors.

The project is a new one-story building to house the sleep studies program. There is a new asphalt parking lot with curb and gutter, concrete walkways, parking lot lighting, drainage structures and zoned irrigation system.

The new building is constructed with slab on grade, concrete block exterior walls with cast stone veneer, steel stud interior walls and wood roof framing. Glazing is a combination of insulating clear glass and spandrel glass set in aluminum store-front in a pattern. Interior finishes include a combination of hard tile and carpet with a few areas receiving vinyl flooring. Walls are painted gypsum board with applied wood trim for crown moldings in bedrooms and chair and crown moldings in the conference room and waiting room.

Most ceilings in the patient area are gypsum wallboard. Ceilings in staff areas are mostly suspended acoustical tile. Interior doors will be solid core, high grade, flush wood veneer with high quality commercial grade hardware. There are three sets of sliding automatic doors required. All exterior cladding and openings are required to be impact resistant.
